Activewear Clothing Ideas
Question: What can we wear when jogging, hiking, or just taking the kids to the playground?
Answer: Being a 'Team Mom' with daughters in hijab that run track, I know that we all occasionally need comfortable and casual clothing. My daughters and I stocked up on long-sleeve t-shirts in cotton blends last summer in the US. I believe they are Jerzees but if we can wear them over here and not die of heat exhaustion, they must be pretty lightweight - without showing our underwear beneath. So we tend to wear a French cut terry pant (it is like a sweat pant with a flare at the bottom). These don't hug the body at all, and then our long-sleeved t-shirts which hit about mid-thigh to cover our bottoms. Paired with our buknuks, we can go the whole day in comfort. Be sure to buy the long-sleeve t-shirts big so they don't hug the body so much and allow for shrinkage (I always line dry so they don't shrink). I have provided one of my favorite online links for long-sleeve t-shirts below.
Question: How about when swimming?
Answer: For swimming, my daughters and I (they are teenagers by the way - very fashion conscious) have found that wearing a regular bathing suit beneath a long-sleeve t-shirt (this is to keep decent when the t-shirt becomes wet) and spandex stretch pants (so they don't completely bog you down when wet) is the best way to go. Again, the buknuk beats other types of hijab for activity wear, even when wet (carry a pin to tighten under the neck when it gets wet though).
